Scholarship NROTC Applicants

National Four-Year Scholarship

Selected applicants for the NROTC scholarship program are awarded scholarships through a highly competitive national selection process.  The recipient will be commissioned a Naval Officer upon graduation and is obligated to a minimum of four years of active duty in the Marines and five years for all other Navy occupations (some Warfare Specialties require additional service).  The scholarship recipient will receive full tuition and other financial benefits including books, class fees, and a monthly subsistence stipend at many of the country's leading colleges and universities.  NROTC scholarships do not pay for enrollment/application fees, room and board, or for personal items such as computers.

The summer prior or the first semester of your freshman year of college, apply and/or re-apply for the Four-Year National NROTC Scholarship.  No applicant can have more than thirty college credit hours.  It is recommended that every applicant register for Naval Science courses, which are open to all enrolled university students, while in the non-scholarship interim period.

HOW TO APPLY FOR AN NROTC NATIONAL FOUR-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP

STEP 1

Complete the applicant questionnaire found in the Navy/Marine ROTC college scholarships bulletin which is available through your local Navy or Marine Corps Recruiter or call 1-800-USA-NAVY.  Questionnaires should be received no earlier than March 1 of the year prior to you applying and no later than January 1 of the year you are applying.

STEP 2

Take the SAT or ACT test as early as possible and release scores directly to the NROTC program by using Code 0656 on the test registration form (there is no other means of providing the scores).  Scores cannot be received before March and will not be considered if received after December 31.

STEP 3

Apply to at least three of the colleges/universities you would like to attend.  Acceptance to an NROTC approved college or university is your responsibility because the NROTC program cannot guarantee acceptance.  It is advisable to apply to your college/university choices by November 1.

STEP 4

Contact your local NROTC program coordinator to begin processing your application.  Your coordinator will be identified in a letter indicating you are "board eligible" based on your questionnaire.

STEP 5

Complete the application forms booklet with your local recruiting officer by the Jan 25 completion date so that it can be received at the main headquarters by the Jan 31 deadline.

STEP 6

Will be the consideration of your application by a selection board which will begin in September and continue meeting periodically through March.
